What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects how the body uses glucose (sugar) for energy.
  • Type 1 diabetes: The body does not produce enough insulin, a hormone that helps glucose enter cells.
  • Type 2 diabetes: The body becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough of it.
  • Gestational diabetes: High blood sugar levels that develop during pregnancy.

What are common symptoms of diabetes?

  • Feeling thirsty
  • Feeling hungry
  • Peeing more often
  • Feeling tired
  • Itchy skin
  • Dry mouth
  • Unintended weight loss )you body starts burning fat and muscle.
  • Blurry vision
  • Frequent infections
  • Cuts that take longer to heal
  • Breath that smells like acetone/nail polish remover, a sign of ketone rising to unsafe level in the blood
  • Feeling sick to your stomach
  • Abdominal pain

What should I do if I'm concerned that I may have diabetes?
